Twiga Restructures Again, Lays Off Workers to Refocus on Tech and BI Solutions

Twiga Foods, one of Kenya’s most prominent agri-tech startups, has announced a new round of internal reorganisation that will affect roles within its supply chain department, as it prepares to pause operations temporarily in Nairobi.

According to the news report published by TechTrends Kenya, this move is part of Twiga’s final phase in a broader business transformation strategy, which aims to align its operational model more closely with evolving market requirements.

The company, which connects farmers directly to retailers through its digital platform, has already undergone previous restructuring phases, including layoffs earlier this year. It now confirms that more roles will be impacted in this latest adjustment.

“This workforce adjustment process is being conducted transparently, respectfully, and in strict compliance with Kenyan labour laws and internal company policies,” the firm said. “Twiga Foods is committed to supporting all affected employees during this period.”

📊 Refocusing on Core Tech and Intelligence Capabilities

Twiga’s leadership noted that the reorganisation is being done to strengthen core capabilities, especially in technology, business intelligence, and digital solutions. This shift reflects a strategic pivot towards a more digital-first business model.

“These strategic decisions, taken with careful consideration, are necessary to build a stronger, more resilient organisation that is well-equipped to scale and meet the demands of Kenya’s dynamic market.”

While operations in Nairobi are paused, the company says it will use this time to develop an alternative distribution centre in a more strategic location. Full operations are expected to resume by August.

🧭 Transformation in Progress

Since its founding in 2014, Twiga has become a major player in agricultural supply chains, helping reduce post-harvest losses and improving market access for farmers. Its technology-enabled platform has been central to streamlining food distribution across Kenya.

Now, as it nears the conclusion of a major internal transformation, Twiga says it is working closely with customers, suppliers, and partners to ensure continuity and minimal disruption.

“The measures announced represent the final steps in Twiga’s journey to transform its business model, ensuring financial sustainability, competitiveness, and the ability to lastingly serve Kenya’s retail ecosystem,” the company added.
